This collection consists of documents from various eras in VMI's history, reflecting the humourous side of cadet life. The collection includes:

• Three small (3.5 x 5 inches) watercolor sketches (circa 1920) that depict firecracker prank results
• A list titled "Graduated scale of beauty in Lexington" (1856)
• A notice about the Virginia Polytechnic Institute football game posted in a barracks room (1937)

The Fletcher B. Emerson letters consist of 30 letters primarily written by Emerson to his parents. These letters discuss cadet life, searching for jobs, starting a family, and service in the United States Army during World War II.

This collection consists of one scrapbook (1922-1926) compiled by Cadet James N. Bell, VMI Class of 1926. The scrapbook includes photographs of cadet life, classmates, and buildings, newspaper clippings, and memorabilia.

This collection consists of photograph albums, diplomas, and papers that document the life of John E. Townes. The photos depict both his VMI cadetship and his subsequent career in the United States Army Coast Artillery Corps (1908-1920) and at VMI as a faculty member (1921-1956).

This collection consists of one scrapbook compiled by Cadet Leopold M. von Schilling, Jr. (VMI Class of 1926) and covers the period from 1922 to 1925. The scrapbook includes snapshots, dance programs, clippings, drawings, and other VMI memorabilia. Topics of the photographs include classmates and friends, cadet life, athletics, and VMI buildings.

This collection consists of one cadet scrapbook compiled by Marshall Ambler Glazebrook (VMI Class of 1925). The scrapbook contains photographs, correspondence, newspaper and advertisement clippings, drawings and annotations, scraps of uniforms, and monthly grade reports. Many of the scrapbook pages are filled in and contain information about VMI athletics, clubs, social functions and events, professors, and classmates.

This collection consists of three cadet scrapbooks (circa 1918-1937) and one photograph album (circa 1922) compiled by Medford G. Ramey (VMI Class of 1922). The scrapbooks and album document cadet life during the late 1910s and early 1920s and include photographs, newspaper clippings, correspondence, dance cards, and VMI memorabilia.

This collection consists of one scrapbook compiled by VMI Cadet Richard R. Woodward. The scrapbook contains photographs of cadet life and other VMI memorabilia.

This collection consists of certificates, citations, commissions, and similar documentation associated with VMI alumni, faculty, staff, or VMI as a whole. The collection does not include VMI diplomas or literary society certificates, which are filed separately.

Scrapbooks of newspaper clippings providing a chronological view of VMI activities, events. Categories include general topics; sports, and special topics. From the 1950's forward these were compiled by the Public Relations staff; prior to that date they originated with various other employees, including the Librarian Nellie Gibbs. The Gibbs sometimes contain photographs pasted to pages.
