The notes in this collection are organized chronologically by course. The collection centers on the college notes taken by Ethney Allyn Selden (Headlee) during her time as a student at Westhampton College, part of the University of Richmond, during the early 1920s.
The first section contains notes from her Spring 1921 Biology course taught by Paul R. Merriman, Associate Professor of Biology. The notes are richly illustrated with drawings by Seldon as well as her notes for study.
The second section contains notes from her Fall 1921 – Spring 1922 Physics course, taught by Dr. Robert Edward Loving, Associate Professor of Physics, and are primarily lab reports from her work in the course.
The third section contains notes from her Fall 1922 – Spring 1923 Physiology course, taught by Dr. Margaret P. Kuyk, Professor of Physiology and Hygiene. In addition to basic notes from class, this section is also richly illustrated with both black and white as well as color images.

Ethney Allyn Selden was born on 31 July 1902 to Charles Wallace and Ethney Burton Selden. She attended Westhampton College, graduating in the class of 1923 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics. She taught math and Latin. In 1925, she married Thomas Jefferson Headlee (4 Mar 1900 – 28 May 1988); the couple had two children, Ann Selden Headlee Patterson (26 Aug 1927 – 12 Oct 1994) and Thomas Jefferson Headlee, Jr. (24 Dec 1931 – 14 April 2014). During her life, Ethney Selden was a member of Ginter Park Baptist Church and a former president of the Baptist Home for Aged Women. She also was a member of the Tuckahoe Woman's Club, the Ginter Park Woman's Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She passed away in Richmond, VA on 12 Oct 1989 and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery.
