    <head>Scope and Contents</head>
<p>The notes in this collection are organized chronologically by course. The collection centers on the <genreform>college notes</genreform> taken by Ethney Allyn Selden (Headlee) during her time as a student at Westhampton College, part of the University of Richmond, during the early 1920s. </p><p>The first section contains notes from her Spring 1921 Biology course taught by <persname>Paul R. Merriman</persname>, <occupation>Associate Professor of Biology</occupation>. The notes are richly illustrated with drawings by Seldon as well as her notes for study. </p><p>The second section contains notes from her Fall 1921 – Spring 1922 Physics course, taught by <persname>Dr. Robert Edward Loving</persname>, <occupation>Associate Professor of Physics</occupation>, and are primarily <genreform>lab reports</genreform> from her work in the course. </p><p>The third section contains notes from her Fall 1922 – Spring 1923 Physiology course, taught by <persname>Dr. Margaret P. Kuyk</persname>, <occupation>Professor of Physiology and Hygiene</occupation>. In addition to basic notes from class, this section is also richly illustrated with both black and white as well as color images. </p>  </scopecontent>

    <head>Biographical / Historical</head>
<p>Ethney Allyn <famname>Selden</famname> was born on <date>31 July 1902</date> to <persname>Charles Wallace</persname> and <famname>Ethney Burton Selden</famname>. She attended Westhampton College, graduating in the class of <date>1923</date> with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics. She taught math and Latin. In 1925, she married <persname>Thomas Jefferson Headlee</persname> (4 Mar 1900 – 28 May 1988); the couple had two children, Ann Selden Headlee Patterson (26 Aug 1927 – 12 Oct 1994) and Thomas Jefferson Headlee, Jr. (24 Dec 1931 – 14 April 2014). During her life, Ethney Selden was a member of <corpname>Ginter Park Baptist Church</corpname> and a former president of the <corpname>Baptist Home for Aged Women</corpname>. She also was a member of the <corpname>Tuckahoe Woman's Club</corpname>, the <corpname>Ginter Park Woman's Club</corpname>, and the <corpname>Daughters of the American Revolution</corpname>. She passed away in <geogname>Richmond, VA</geogname> on <date>12 Oct 1989</date> and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery.</p>  </bioghist>
