Scope and content:

This collection consists of one manuscript notebook compiled by VMI Cadet Robert A. Paine in 1879. The notebook contains lyrics of songs popular during the 1870s.

Biographical / historical:

Robert Alexander Paine was born in 1859 in Richmond, Virginia. He graduated from VMI in 1881 and went on to become a businessman and civil engineer. Paine died in 1929 in Ashland, Virginia.
