    <head>Biographical/Historical Information</head>
<p>Robert Alexander Paine was born in 1859 in Richmond, Virginia. He graduated from VMI in 1881 and went on to become a businessman and civil engineer. Paine died in 1929 in Ashland, Virginia.</p>  </bioghist>
