The inventory is a guide to Mss. Acc. 1999.48 which is the postcard collection documenting pre-restoration Williamsburg, restored Williamsburg, Jamestown, the College of William and Mary, the University of Virginia, and cities, towns, and holidays in Virginia. Also includes clippings, articles, photographs, programs, and souvenir publications.

This collection consists of the papers of the Carr familyof " Carrsbrook", Albemarle County, and the Cary familyof " Carysbrook, " Fluvanna County, Virginia, 1785-1839, ca. 285 items (2.5 Hollinger boxes, 1 linear foot), including chiefly correspondence, but also manuscripts of obituaries, poetry, and debates, and financial documents. The papers include correspondence between Peter Carr(1770-1815), nephew of Thomas Jefferson, Hester "Hetty" Smith Stevenson Carr(1767-1834), George Pitt Stevenson(d.1819), Dabney S. Carr(1802-1854), Maria Jefferson Carr(1804-1825), Jane Margaret Carr Cary(1809-1903), Wilson Miles Cary(1806-1877), Wilson Jefferson Cary(1784-1823), and Virginia Randolph Cary(1786-1852), with other members of the Jefferson, Randolph, Carr, and Caryfamilies.

Papers, 1864-1910, of the Christian family of Richmond, Va. including letters of Samuel M. Cooper at Virginia Military Institute and the University of Virginia; Frank Palmer Christian at Woodberry Forest School; and papers of the Richmond Female Humane Association (Leigh St. Orphan Asylum) and the Young Women's Christian Association of Richmond.

This collection consists of the papers of Senator Claude A. Swansonof Virginia(1862-1939), 1917-1922, ca. 6,400 items (16 Hollinger boxes, 6.5 linear feet) primarily correspondence with constituents and fellow congressmen concerning bills in the Senate, constituent needs and requests, appointments and invitations, all related to his senatorial career. Common constituent concerns include claims against various federal and state agencies, especially the United States Army, pardons for family members and friends, difficulties with foreign governments, personal problems, the loss of personal effects of soldiers, liberty bonds, requests for letters of introduction and recommendation, and questions about government surplus from World War I.

These two pocket diaries, 1853 and 1860, were kept by Philip St. George Cockeof Belmead, Powhatan County, Virginia. The 1853 diary discusses matters of a personal nature while the 1860 diary discusses his involvement with the Virginia Military Instituteas President of its Board of Visitors and as Chairman of the Armory Commission.

These twelve letters, 1858-1879, and n.d., pertain chiefly to the family and estate of Philip St. George Cocke. Topics of interest include Belmead, the Civil War, and the University of Virginia. Typed transcripts are available for the majority of these letters.

This collection consists of ca. sixty items, ca. 1890-1940, including six University of Virginiadiplomas & certificates, 1898-1900 (transferred to the UVA Diploma files), and eight medical & military certificates, 1900-1937, of Dr. Norborne Page Cocke, and miscellaneous photographs of the Cocke family, students and groups at the University of Virginia.

The Cocke- ElliotFamily papers contain ca. 15,000 items (41 Hollinger boxes, ca. 17 linear feet and four oversize folders), ca. 1773-1992, and consist largely of personal and family correspondence, financial and legal papers, memorabilia, bound volumes, and genealogical and historical research material pertaining to the Cocke, Elliot, and related families from the colonial period through the twentieth century, assembled by John Page Elliot.
