[Sends him the introduction to the new Modern Library edition of Lust for Lifefor his manuscript sale. He also includes the second draft of the Ms. and has ordered Bennett Cerfto send the third, final, draft, all to be sold together. Asks him to take any price he can get for the Ms. The money realized by the sale is intended for the [ Abraham Lincoln Brigade. ]

[Wonders if the exhibit "Italian Influence on American Literature" was a success. Asks that his manuscript (lent it to the exhibition) be returned, since he needs to deposit it at U. C. L. A.Mentions how much his wife and he enjoyed the day they spent with the Barretts.]

[Informs Stone that the portion of the Ms. The Agony and the Ecstacywhich he lent to the exhibition of "Italian Influence on American Literature" will be returned by the Grolier Club. Reports on the success of the exhibition, the attendance at the Grolier Club, the reports in the Herald Tribune, New York Timesetc. Promises him a book published by the Club regarding the exhibition. Mentions the acquisition of Stone's manuscripts by U. C. L. A., also the Irving StoneCollection at the University of Virginia. Looks forward to meeting the Stones again.]
