This collection contains photographs taken by Arthur E. Scott, a photojournalist and photo-historian for the U.S. Senate. It contains over 5,000 prints and negatives of United States politicians (mainly Senators), political events such as campaigns and inaugurations, and landmarks throughout the Washington, D.C. area, from the mid-1930s to the 1970s. There are also 27 scrapbooks compiled by Arthur E. Scott, primarily consisting of newspaper clippings of Scott's photographs. The collection also contains glass negatives from the 1910s and 1920s that were taken by other photographers.

Boreman, Arthur Inghram, 1823-1896
Personal and business papers of Arthur I. Boreman (1823-1896), lawyer, U.S. senator, circuit court judge, and first governor of West Virginia. The bulk of the collection consists of papers relating to his judgeship and to the law firm of Boreman and Bullocks, Parkersburg, WV. Series include correspondence, notes on cases tried before Judge Boreman, envelope cases of material regarding legal cases in which Boreman was involved, financial material, and political and judicial printed material. Correspondence includes letters to Boreman from Francis H. Pierpont (1866-1867), which concern politics in West Virginia, the admission of Berkeley and Jefferson counties into the state, the Virginia debt, and Reconstruction in Virginia. There is little other material relating to the governorship or political activities. Additional correspondents include J.W. Davis, John J. Davis, D.D.T. Farnsworth, D.H. Strother, J.G. Jackson, Charles J. Faulkner, and E.W. Wilson. Also includes manuscripts of speeches; muster rolls; household accounts; civil and court case papers concerning oil well drilling and sales; railroad property inventories and operation; coal prices, shipping data, and strikes; liquid fuel transportation; and steam and tow boat cargoes, navigation data, and names of boats in service on the Ohio River. There is also genealogical information on P.G. Van Winkle and Ebenezer Zane, and a letter and deposition by J.H. Diss Debar. For more details and box-level contents list, see Scope and Content Note. Research papers and drafts of a biography of William Chapman Revercomb (1895-1979). Original accession includes one bound typescript of over 540 pages narrating the political career of Chapman Revercomb, authored by Stephen Jones and Ann Bradley; includes photocopies of maps (with much demographic data) and photographs. Also includes a typescript of over 350 pages of second version of this book.

The C-SPAN records consist of materials created and collected by the C-SPAN Corporation and its founder Brian Lamb from the years 1809, 1978-2012. The materials created by C-SPAN originate from 1978-2012, with one antique newspaper from 1809 gifted to Lamb. The records document C-SPAN's functions as a broadcasting network, as well as its continuing engagement in the political and public affairs sphere of the United States.

A letter book that documents daily correspondence carried out when Davis Elkins served in the U. S. Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of his father, Stephen Benton Elkins. The letter book contains mostly constituent requests for information about various laws and regulations, or lobbying requests on pending legislation. There are many condolences and a few personal business letters.

This collection contains letters from Francis Wilkinson Pickens to various correspondents, including John C. Calhoun and Thomas Green Clemson. A letter dated Sept. 29, 1845 to John C. Calhoun urges the latter to be a candidate for the U. S. Senate. There are three letters to Pickens' wife. In addition, the collection includes a legal document pertaining to John Forsyth of Georgia dated 1826, most of which is in French, as well as a free order of passage document given to Pickens to visit Poland, Germany, Switzerland, France, and England dated 1860. This document is in multiple languages.

Hereford, Frank, 1825-1891

Hereford was a lawyer and politician and served in the House of Representatives from 1871 to 1877 when he was elected to the Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Allen T. Caperton. He served until 1881. The papers include letters of recommendation; congratulations on his election to the Senate; correspondence on West Virginia politics; an editorial letter on the "salary grab;" and letters urging Hereford to run for re-election in 1881.

Hereford, Frank, 1825-1891

Correspondence of Congressman and U.S. Senator, Frank Hereford. Papers deal with the machinations of the Camden-Davis ring, Hereford's election to the Senate, and West Virginia politics. Most of the letters involve the attempts of Johnson Camden and John E. Kenna to secure Hereford a seat on the Utah Commission in 1886.
