Includes 82 items collected by Charles Manson Crutchfield, including 38 photographs some of which are of Confederate generals and were taken by Michael Miley, postcards and printed materials, most of which concern Washington and Lee University and the surrounding city of Lexington, Virginia during the 1880's

The Civil War documents and ephemera collection consists of Civil War-related documents, largely items with autograph rather than content significance. The collection includes a shares document, autograph card, correspondence, an enrollement document, and a bond certificate.

Contains correspondence with Henry St. George Tucker regarding the maintenance of Lexington, Virginia's Col Alto estate, where Hart was residing prior to World War I. Also contains correspondane concerning WWI, including notices of military protocol. The U.S.S. Mongolia and 317th Infantry at Sea, and the medical detachment of which Hart was a part, are topics of interest.

This collection consists of eight letters and one letter fragment from Cadet John B. Snodgrass to his sister Katherine (Kate) Snodgrass-Boyd. All letters are dated 1862 and written from VMI, Lexington, Virginia. The primary topic is the Civil War and its effect on the Snodgrass family, with occasional references to VMI. Multiple letters (see April 19, May 1, May 18) mention that Corps of Cadets has been ordered to aid General Stonewall Jackson because he is "anxious to get a shot at the enemy."

The John E. Roller papers include:

• Civil War era letters from cadet friends concerning life at VMI
• Civil War dispatches and telegrams that date from Roller's service with the Confederate States of America engineers, including one document signed by General Robert E. Lee
• One scrapbook (circa 1910) that contains clippings about Civil War battles, veterans, unit reunions, monument dedications, and other related information
• Two photographs, one of Confederate soldier Lieutenant Colonel Samuel T. Walker (10th Virginia Infantry Regiment) and one of the Virginia Legislature Centennial Committee (1871)
• Holograph text of a cadet literary-debating society speech delivered by Cadet Norwood B. Randolph in 1870
• Other items

This collection contains primary and secondary resources pertaining to Robert E. Lee and the Lee family. Included are correspondences from, to, and about Lee and various family members; memorabilia, pamphlets, photographs, reminiscences, miscellaneous personal papers, family history and genealogy. The collection includes materials acquired from the Lee family and items donated to and purchased and compiled by W&L University since Lee's tenure as president of Washington College from 1865 - 1870. Adminstrative papers, such as President's Reports, etc..., from Robert E. Lee's presidency of the school may be found within the W&L University Archives. This collection contains biographical and historical information on various people and places.

This collection includes correspondence while Jamison was Secretary of War of South Carolina, 1861; scattered letters and papers pertaining to the South Carolina Secession Convention of which he was president, and papers related to his tenure as presiding judge of the military court of Gen. Beauregard's Corps, 1862-1864. Robert Woodward Barnwell and Lawrence Massillon Keitt are among the correspondents.

This collection contains photocopies of research materials gathered by Francis MacDonnell in preparation of his article 'Reconstruction in the wake of Vietnam: the pardoning of Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis,' which was published in Civil War History, Vol. XL, no.2, 1994. Included are materials from the Gerald Ford Library, government documents, and miscellaneous sources on the pardoning of Robert E. Lee, Vietnam draft evaders, Iva 'Tokyo Rose' Toguri and others during the Ford Administration and on the pardoning of Jefferson Davis during the Carter Administration.
