Other papers include a letter book, West Virginia National Guard, 1903-1907; state Selective Service memoranda, 1940-1947; and a "Historical Record of Selective Service in West Virginia." Other subjects include the Morgantown and Kingwood Railroad, Pierce's coal mining, public utilities, oil, timber, gas, fruit growing, and other business activities. Correspondents include William G. Conley, William M.O. Dawson, Davis Elkins, William E. Glasscock, Walter S. Hallanan, Lewis B. Hershey, Homer A. Holt, Harley M. Kilgore, J. Howard McGrath, Edward Martin, Clarence W. Meadows, E.F. Correspondence of David Goff (ca. 1804-1878) of Beverly, West Virginia, an attorney and land promoter for Harrison, Randolph, and Tucker Counties. Goff became prosecuting attorney in 1835, served as a Colonel in the Virginia militia in 1844, was superintendent of Randolph County schools in 1853, served as a member of the Virginia Assembly, and was a West Virginia State Senator from Randolph County (1875-1877). Includes ten original letters, seven of which have been transcribed. Subjects include a proposed turnpike from Beverly to Fairmont; a Parkersburg to (Tygart) Valley River railway, Sons of Temperance, and West Virginia politics, 1871. Correspondents are Samuel Woods, Gideon D. Camden, William F. Wilson, and D. W. Shurtliff.

Pierpont's appointment to the West Virginia University Board of Regents (1869) and a Society of the Army of West Virginia reunion notice (1884).

The papers of George W. Smith (1814-1860), a merchant, justice of the peace, land agent, and presidential elector in the town of Ripley, Jackson County, West Virginia. There are also papers regarding other family members. The collection serves as a narrative and record of business, local politics, and social conditions in West Virginia before and after statehood. It includes business and personal correspondence, financial and legal papers, business and political ledgers, and ephemera. The majority of the business and personal correspondence in this collection consists of incoming letters to George W. Smith from his family and business associates. There are a few letters from Nehemiah Smith, a delegate in the Virginia Assembly, some of which discuss efforts to route a proposed turnpike from Staunton to Ripley (ca. 1833-1842); and letters from Confederate prisoners of war, six from Point Lookout prison in Maryland (1864-1865), and one from Elmira, New York (1864). Camden was a lawyer, Democratic politician, member of the Virginia Convention of 1850-1851, circuit judge, and state senator (1872-1876). The calendar covers 1785-1860 and includes correspondence from this period in A&M 1188, 1199, 1221, and 1276. The cards contain the date, writer, addresses, description of contents and description and location of the document. There is also a survey of the letters by group, tally of letters based on geographic distribution, a Camden chronology, and brief biographical sketches of the subject.

Contains letter from James Brown, Jr., 2nd Auditors Office, dated 2 November 1849, informing Camden that the Board of Public Works will probably supply additional capital for the completion of the Weston and Fairmont Turnpike, of which company Camden was president.
