Blackwell Family Papers 1725-1930, n.d.

There are ca. 40 items, 1725-1930 and n.d., consisting of land grants, deeds, surveys and plats, and other papers pertaining to the Blackwelland Smithand related families, chiefly of Fauquier County, Virginia; and, printed material. Printed articles pertain to the Blackwell family, Civil War heroes, George Washington, the United States Army, and Randolph-Macon College. There are also two small published works, Baptismal Vows(1863) and Military and Naval Insignia and Novelties(1914).

Bradley T. Johnson Papers 1676-1937

The papers of Bradley T. Johnsonconsist of ca. 4000 items covering the years 1676 to 1937, and are primarily the personal correspondence of the members of three families: Johnson, Rutherfoordand Saunders. By far the greatest number of letters and documents concern the affairs of the Johnson familyand Bradley T. Johnsonduring the period 1840-1880. The collection includes a great number of letters to Bradley T. Johnsonfrom his mother, Eleanor Murdock (Tyler) Johnson, and his wife, Jane Claudia (Saunders) Johnson. Items of particular interest include: copies of letters from George Washingtonto Thomas Johnsonrelative to Thomas Johnson's appointment to the United States Supreme Courtand letters to General Bradley T. This collection consists of the papers of the Carr familyof " Carrsbrook", Albemarle County, and the Cary familyof " Carysbrook, " Fluvanna County, Virginia, 1785-1839, ca. 285 items (2.5 Hollinger boxes, 1 linear foot), including chiefly correspondence, but also manuscripts of obituaries, poetry, and debates, and financial documents. The papers include correspondence between Peter Carr(1770-1815), nephew of Thomas Jefferson, Hester "Hetty" Smith Stevenson Carr(1767-1834), George Pitt Stevenson(d.1819), Dabney S. Carr(1802-1854), Maria Jefferson Carr(1804-1825), Jane Margaret Carr Cary(1809-1903), Wilson Miles Cary(1806-1877), Wilson Jefferson Cary(1784-1823), and Virginia Randolph Cary(1786-1852), with other members of the Jefferson, Randolph, Carr, and Caryfamilies.

Hawxhurst[b. 1845], Company E, 65th Ohio Veteran Volunteer Infantryand Charles Plummer Morrill, 24th Maine Infantry, describing their experiences during and after the Civil War in Georgia, Louisiana, New York, Tennesseeand Texas. Also present are military discharge papers for Hawxhurst and Morrill's brother George Morrill[b. 1847], a member of the 4th Maine Light Artillery, a photograph of Hawxhurst (see his letter of January 31, 1866) and three ambrotypes: Charles Morrill(taken in Memphis, Tennessee, 1863), an unidentified woman and an unidentified man. A calotype print of an unidentified young Atlantawoman is attached to Hawxhurst's letter of May 31, 1865. The letters of Hawxhurst and Morrill are described below as two separate groups.

This collection of Virginiana and Americana, 1669 (1830-1965) 1993, consisting of ca. 200 items, was acquired by Robert S. Pace. There are correspondence, papers, newspaper clippings and other printed, 1861-1980, pertaining to the Blairand Woodburyfamilies as well as various pamphlets, 1910-1917, collected by Woodbury Blair. The next series includes Virginiana and Americana in the form of autographs, correspondence and papers, and printed. In addition to autographs of prominent persons, there are correspondence, 1946- 1961, of Judithand Arthur Hart Burlingwith prominent people; correspondence, 1908-1944, of the Marlow Coal Companyof Washington, D.C.; and, correspondence and papers of Robert S. Pace, chiefly concerning Americana and restoration. Other material consists of World War II Japanese propaganda.
