Papers of West Virginia University, School of Medicine faculty member Dr. William A. Neal and the Neal family of West Virginia. Includes correspondence, photographs, awards, clippings, military service record, etc. documenting his career. Also includes papers regarding Neal's father and paternal uncles, and mother. There are papers of his grandfather William Elmer Neal (1875-1969) who was a physician, mayor of Huntington, WV (1925-1928), and who served in the WV House of Delegates (1949-1951) and U.S. House of Representatives (1952-1954; 1956-1958). There are letters of Leonard B. Neal (1878-1900) and material regarding Susan Witten Neal (1888-1961), who was one of the first female graduates of Marshall College. Finally, there are research papers and manuscript materials for William A. Neal's book on Edward J. Van Liere, who was an advocate for medical education in West Virginia.

Papers of President David C. Hardesty, Jr. of West Virginia University. Before becoming President of West Virginia University, Hardesty was a lawyer and partner of Bowles, Rice, McDavid, Graff & Love (1973-1994) and West Virginia Tax Commissioner (1977-1980), among various other positions. After finishing his 12-year term as West Virginia University President (1995-2007), Hardesty was a Professor of Law at the West Virginia University College of Law (2007-2018). Some of the series titles in the addendum of 2019/09/03, including series 21-30, repeat some of the earlier series titles (e.g. both Series 7 and Series 21 are titled "Student Papers").

Facsimiles of transcripts of oral history sound recordings regarding the history of the Huntington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the period 1970 to 1995. The 64 interviews were conducted by Carrie Nobel Kline and Michael Nobel Kline. Interviewees include Corp of Engineers administrators and other workers, engineers, and scientists. Each provides background information including their family history as well as details regarding their work with the Corps providing a rich history of the work and impact of the Corps on West Virginia waterways, communities, environment, culture, and economy. Specifically the interviews discuss aspects of engineering including navigation systems, automation, geotechnical factors, mapping, locks and dams, flood walls, and construction; natural resources including fish and wildlife, floods, and hydrology; public affairs including programs such as diving, community relations, planning, impact on cultural resources, and recreation such as white water rafting; and management including employment, lockmasters, human resources, internships, and labor unions. West Virginia communities impacted by the Corps are also discussed.

The West Virginia chapter of a national environmental association whose membership was composed of conservation professionals. Nearly all of its members were federal, state or academic employees of such organizations and institutions as the U. S. Forest Service, West Virginia University, or the WV State Conservation Commission. Arranged chronologically by year, the records include annual meeting programs, executive council meeting minutes, correspondence, newsletters, speeches, reports, and presentations. The society's purpose was to serve as medium for exchanging information, "to promote and advance all phases of the science of conservation of soil and water resources," and "to represent, advance and protect the standards of the science of soil and water conservation."

This material consists of annual reports of county extension agents, cooperative extension work in agriculture and home economics, plans of work, annual narrative reports for West Virginia counties, annual reports of the Agricultural Extension Service (AES) (1912-1955), plans of work for the AES (1927-1961), and reports of the American Country Life Association Annual Conferences. There is a typescript of the annual report from 1959, a Plan of Work from 1961, and narrative reports from 1961 for 53 of the 55 Counties. See inventory sheets for complete listing of items. Gerald Heebink (1895-1956) was an extension diaryman in the West Virginia University College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Home Economics from 1935 to 1956. Records consist of papers related to Heebink's work with artificial breeders' cooperatives; various national diary associations, including the Dairy Herd Improvement Association, the Holstein-Friesian Association of America, the West Virginia Jersey Cattle Club, Guernsey cattle clubs, and the National Eight Point Dairy Program; and the dairy extension, chiefly from 1936 to 1956. Materials include annual reports, handbooks, speeches, clippings, articles, and press releases.
