Description:

The Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library administers over 13 million manuscripts, 3.6 million items in the University archives, and 325,000 rare books, as well as approximately 5,000 maps, over 4,000 broadsides; more than 250,000 photographs and small prints; over 8,000 reels of microfilm; and substantial holdings of audio recordings, motion picture films, and ephemera.

The major emphasis of the Department’s collections are American history and literature, with additional substantive collections in Virginiana, British literature, African-American history, book arts, the history of sporting and World War I, among others. In addition, the library serves as the University Archives, holding records of historic significance to UVA.

Virginia Law Review records, 1960/2019 3 Linear Feet

The office files of the Virginia Law Review were routinely transferred to the archives between 1978 and 1985. The records consist primarily of administrative correspondence and other materials from the office of the editor-in-chief, and correspondence with writers of articles. There is also some documentation related to the organization and function of law student organizations.

This collection includes at least two copies of every issue of the Virginia Law School Report. Issues of the Report contain articles that highlight the work of students, faculty, and administrators at the University of Virginia School of Law. Also, between 1977 and 1990, the annual reports for the University of Virginia Law School Foundation were published here.

This collection consists of print and digital copies of the Virginia Law Weekly. The periodical, managed by University of Virginia Law students, features news articles, opinion columns, humor articles, photographs, advertisements, and other content. This collection consists of the Virginia Law Weekly's organizational records including founding documents, correspondence, and digital media. It also contains photographic prints, negatives, and contact sheets used in the production of the Virginia Law Weekly.
