Subjects include the history of businesses and individuals in Morgantown and the surrounding area, including the Lemley, Ley, and Robison/Robinson families; West Virginia University (WVU) history; Kiger's real estate career; political campaigns; and Morgantown High School, among others. Vaughn L. Kiger, Collector, Papers of Hale J. Posten, Law Professor, 1905/1979 1.25 Linear Feet 1 ft. 3 in. (1 record carton)

Personal papers of Hale J. Posten (1904-1983), of Morgantown, West Virginia. Posten graduated from West Virginia University, A.B. (1924) and L.L.B. (1926), and married Mary Eleanor Dill in 1936. He worked as a lawyer, served in the Air Force during World War II, and was president of WVU's Alumni Association from 1968-1969. He was released from active duty as a Lieutenant Commander in 1945. Collection includes photographs, correspondence, clippings, writings, and printed material. Subjects of photographs include the Dill family and student life and football players at WVU in the mid-1920s. Correspondence includes material related to Posten's military service.

Correspondence of the West Virginia State Board of Control, which was responsible for all state correctional institutions, educational institutions, and hospitals from 1909 to 1949. Individuals serving on the three-man board at various times were John S. Lakin, J.W. Barnes, J.A. Chambers, J.S. Darst, Edgar B. Stewart, J.Z. Terrell, W.R. Thurmond, John B. White, and F.W. McCullough. The letters in this collection deal with all state institutioris and their problems. There are letters dealing with building construction, building repairs, the purchase of new property, thehiring of new employees, employees' salaries, institution menus, building insurance, gifts and grants to institutions, and institutional financial matters. Proposals, plans, and correspondence regarding West Virginia University building projects. Includes specifications for Woodburn Hall (1873) and blueprints for the north wing (1897), specifications for the Evansdale Library (1978), and renovation of Colson Hall (1978). There are also floor plans for Purinton House with a sketch of the exterior (ca. 1905). Other items include maps and drawings pertaining to east Morgantown (1901) and the WVU Campus (1971), and several blank diplomas for different schools and colleges within the University. The correspondence is from WVU President Jerome Raymond to architects competing for the contract to design an armory, mechanical hall, and a library with a museum (1899/03/16).
