The collection is arranged in three series: John E. Roller Papers, Biographical/Genealogical Information, and Civil War Documents.

This collection consists of the papers of Henry A. Washington, professor of history and political economy at the College of William and Mary. Dates include 1835-1859. The collection Includes correspondence, poetical compositions, diaries kept while practicing law in Richmond, Va., writings and addresses, legal and financial papers, and the manuscript of his edition of the Writings of Thomas Jefferson as well as supporting documentation for that project. Prominent correspondents include John Moncure Daniel, William and Mary faculty/staff (Benjamin S. Ewell, Tazewell Taylor, Morgan J. Smead, Silas Totten), John Johns, and family members.

Administrative Files, 1830/2002

Administrative Files, ca. 1830-2002, is comprised of documents which record the information used to manage the cemetery. As such, it contains reports and minutes compiled by the cemetery's various treasurers and presidents over the years, information relating to board meetings, insurance policy papers, and other similar documents created in the course of running the business.

Financial Files, 1840/2006

Financial Files, ca. 1840-2006, is comprised of financial documents of various types. These include receipts for materials purchased by the cemetery for operations, including hardware, materials, landscaping services, and other expenses relating to the day-to-day care of the cemetery grounds and buildings. Cemetery account books, receipt books, and ledgers track the income and expenditures of the Cemetery, including payments made to the cemetery for the one-time purchase of plots and ongoing income from perpetual care plots. Additional information includes cemetery tax documents are returns, employee payment and salary information, banking documents (including deposit slips and account statements), donor pledges, and other related documents directly impacting the financial affairs of Woodbine cemetery. Certain folder within this series are restricted, due to the presence of personally identifying information.

Papers of James ("Jim") Franklin Comstock of Richwood, West Virginia, whose position as editor of the West Virginia Hillbilly and avocation as collector and advocate of all things West Virginia led to the preservation of much of the state's physical, visual, and textual history. The collection includes materials Comstock collected about West Virginia history as well as his own personal and professional papers.
