Records relating to the Marshall Day celebration held on May 15, 1951. This major event honored General George C. Marshall (VMI Class of 1901) and was attended by many digitaries and Marshall associates.

Scrapbooks of newspaper clippings providing a chronological view of VMI activities, events. Categories include general topics; sports, and special topics. From the 1950's forward these were compiled by the Public Relations staff; prior to that date they originated with various other employees, including the Librarian Nellie Gibbs. The Gibbs sometimes contain photographs pasted to pages.

This collection consists of miscellaneous personal papers found in the Kilbourne family home in 2016, including:

• A file of correspondence and memoranda (1898-1937) dating from Charles E. Kilbourne's career in the United States Army, primarily letters of recommendation
• Photographs
• Scrapbooks
• Newspaper clippings
• Subject files related to Kilbourne's visit to the Philippines (1954-1955) and the Great Yamen Imperial Order of Dragon (1954-1963)

Correspondence, 1840-1918, originating in the Superintendent's office, unrelated to any other records series. Primarily about purchases and business transactions, and miscellaneous file.

Superintendents' correspondence file containing a small number of letters from or relating to notable individuals, including U. S. Presidents. Includes Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy (telegram announcing death), Ronald Reagan, John Glenn, Franklin Roosevelt.

Records relating to the inaugural ceremonies or assumption of command events for the various Superintendents. In recent administations there have not been elaborate inaugural ceremonies.

This collection consists of a 41 page manuscript of a speech given at VMI by Senator Robert M. T. Hunter on July 3, 1857 as part of the celebrations marking the end of the academic year. The speech was subsequently printed by McFarlane & Fergusson (Richmond, Virginia) and that published version is also available in the VMI Archives.

Records relating to Institute special events. This material includes information about major events such as New Market Day, Founders Day and graduation, as well as material concerning building and other dedications, events honoring individuals, visiting dignitaries, and related material.

This collection consists of a four page holograph manuscript containing the text of a speech given by an unidentified speaker on the VMI's Founders Day anniversary, November 11, 1843.
