Abstract Or Scope

Collection consists of photographs mounted on edge notched cards. The Tanganyika Project was a joint effort between the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and West Virginia University, College of Agriculture to help improve agriculture practices in East Africa. This was an exchange program with Tanganyikan (now Tanzania) students attending WVU to study in the College of Agriculture and WVU faculty visiting Tanganyika offering technical assistance. The program also included projects in Kenya and Uganda. Photographs in this collection include images of students, faculty, program events, as well as images of agriculture and structures from Tanganyika and other locations in Africa. These photographs date to the years 1961-1968. Some photographs are labeled on the back with locations, subjects, date taken, etc.

Abstract Or Scope

Boxes 1-2 consist of black and white negatives, and black and white contact sheets and prints. Negative sizes include 4"x5" and 5"x7" sheet film, and 2-¼" and 35mm roll film. These images date from 1956 to 1970. The College of Agriculture sorted the negatives and proofs by subject. These subjects reflect the college's departments and the course of work in the early 1960s. The bulk of the collection is Animal Science, Horticulture, and 4-H negatives and proofs. Images in this collection include faculty and students, livestock judging and sales, Jacksons Mill, and many other subjects; the full list of subjects is available below. Additionally, there are three subjects created by the Center: Exhibits, Miscellaneous and Scholarships and Awards. College of Agriculture and Forestry photographer David Creel is credited with taking the majority of these photographs.

Abstract Or Scope

Slides from the old Agricultural Science Building. Some of the presentations came from the Dorsey Resource Center, built at the Jackson's Mill Extension in 1978. Slides include informational presentations about various topics, primarily either educational materials or College programming. Educational materials are primarily presentations on the proper use and maintenance of various equipment, agricultural techniques, and laws/protocols. Slides on College programming and groups are largely unidentified, but include Programming in the Village of P, and the FFA (Future Farmers of America). There may also be some materials from the home economics program, such as a presentation titled "Home Safety: Home Design and Decoration." Slide presentations 6, 9, 12, 16, 17, 23, and 24 have an accompanying cassette, presentations 6, 12, 14, 16, 17, 25, 26, and 32 have papers (primarily scripts, but some include other informational materials), and presentation 25 has a film.
