Scope and content:

Describes the small coal-mining town of David, KY., and shows typical activities of a miner and his family. Follows the coal-mining process, showing how the coal is removed from the mine with the help of cutter bars, drills, dynamite, and conveyer belts, and how it is washed, relieved of impurities, sorted, and loaded on railroad cars. Discusses safety precautions taken by miners, shows the location of coal-producing areas in the United States, and discusses various uses of coal and its by products.
