Papers of Phi Sigma Delta Fraternity at West Virginia University contain photographs, records of reunions, newsletters, and other material. This collection documents the relationships maintained by the members after their graduations. A portion of this collection containing personally identifiable information has been removed and placed in closed collections.
The collection is divided into four series as follows:
Series 1. Photographs; 1946-2000 and undated; box 1, folders 1-3.
Series 2. Reunions; 1998-2003; box 2 - box 3, folder 5.
Series 3. Ups & Downs Newsletters; 1999-2008; box 3, folder 6.
Series 4. Miscellaneous; 1933-2002; box 3, folder 7.
This series contains photographs of Phi Sigma Delta fraternity members. The majority of the images are of reunions, but the series also includes pictures of the members when they were students at West Virginia University. This series also includes a 1948 songbook containing sheet music of Phi Sigma Delta songs. [Records with personally identifiable information have been removed and placed in closed collections.]
This series contains numerous materials including a scrapbook, photographs, video cassettes, and correspondence, among other materials, pertaining to Phi Sigma Delta reunions. [Records with personally identifiable information have been removed and placed in closed collections.]
This series contains eleven issues of Phi Sigma Delta's "Ups & Downs" newsletter. Content includes membership lists with addresses, news about members ("Frater News"), and notices of upcoming events. [This entire series contains personally identifiable information and has been moved to closed collections.]
This series contains general correspondence, photocopied images, and other materials relating to Phi Sigma Delta. This series also includes a 1933 copy of "Monticola," West Virginia University's yearbook, in which the fraternity is identified (pgs. 238-239). Phi Sigma Delta began at Columbia University in 1910. The Upsilon Chapter was active at West Virginia University from May 7, 1927-1962. Its colors were purple and white and its flower was a white carnation.
During the years it was active, the fraternity sponsored numerous activities including dinners and dances, among others.
While the members referenced throughout this collection are from different classes, they have maintained connections via letters, e-mails, and reunions.
