Scope and content:

Papers of the Ladwig family. They document the professional and personal lives of medical and teaching professionals in West Virginia in the early twentieth century, includng Dr. Otto Ladwig (1875-1968), his wife Calora Hardway Ladwig (1882-1974), and Margaret and Gertrude Hardway, Calora's sisters. The Ladwigs lived in Harrison and Randolph counties and were active in itinerant logging communities such as Evenwood. There are correspondence, publications, deeds, certificates, and photos of the Ladwig and Hardway families.

There is also a large series of photographs documenting the service of Cornelia, the Ladwig's daughter, in the Red Cross during World War II, as well as letters to Cornelia during this period.

In addition to the Ladwigs and Hardways, the collection includes many photographs and postcards of students and schools including Broaddus College, Fairmont Normal School, secondary schools, and more. The papers also include materials on the community of Everwood, West Virginia and the lumber company there.

Many books of different genres and topics were separated to the book collection; a list of these books is available from a curator.

Includes correspondence, such as letters from patients, advertising from drug companies, and employment related letters. Also includes photographic portraits of Otto Ladwig, Calora Hardway (later Mrs. Ladwig), and the Hardway sisters.

Includes 13 items with manuscript notes by Dr. Otto Ladwig. These items are apparently a record of appointments at his Evenwood practice; they are difficult to read.

Includes incoming letters, deeds, receipts, etc. Incoming letters to Margaret Hardway are literate and descriptive, depicting the professional and personal lives of teachers in West Virginia in the early twentieth century.

These records primarily document Otto Ladwig and activities of the Hardway sisters as teachers in West Virginia. Includes WV teaching certificates; "pass" certificates for Fairmont State College, and employment related correspondence. Photographs in this series are mostly student group portraits documenting Broaddus College, Lost Creek School, Sheets Mill School, Fairmont State Normal School, and unidentified schools in the early twentieth century.

Consists primarily of photographic documentation of Dr. Ladwig's family, and the lumber mill at Evenwood where Otto Ladwig was employed. Also includes Evenwood related ephemera.

Includes 12 items, one of which is double-sized; subjects include various aspects of Lost Creek, Clarksburg, Gassaway, New Martinsville, Rainelle, Richwood, and a birds-eye view of Elkins.

Contains 5 items, including 2 student activity books, and 3 football schedules.

These papers include mostly incoming letters and photographs documenting Cornelia's service in the Red Cross during World War II. Her outgoing letters are not in this collection. 1915-1945.

Includes baptism, public attendance, penmanship, etc.
