Background

Scope and content:

Collection contains the undergraduate diploma for James Edward Grimsley (class of 1951) and letter of appointment to the Board of Visitors for Grimsley signed by Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder in 1990.

Biographical / historical:

James Edward Grimsely was a member of the graduating class of 1951 at William & Mary. He was married to Ann Grimsley and they had three children. Grimsley worked as a reporter for the United Press International and as William & Mary's press relations director before working for The Times-Dispatch. Grimsley was an adjunct professor of journalism at the University of Virginia. He was also a member of the Board of Visitors at William & Mary.
