The collection contains materials related to Dr. Armand J. Galfo's teaching in the School of Education, service to the College of William and Mary, and scholarship throughout his career, his teaching and scholarly activities, awards and achievements, and service in the Air Force and Air Force Reserves.

The materials consist of correspondence, news clippings, photographs, pamphlets, publications by Dr. Galfo, research materials of Armand and Mary Galfo, teaching notes, photocopies of articles, overhead transparencies, DVDs of speeches, an audio cassette tape of a radio interview, and personal items of Armand and Mary Galfo.

Acc. 2007.63, includes material from the mid-twentieth century including items from Dr. Galfo's Air Force service, letters from his future wife Mary, and other material. It is not yet fully described in this finding aid.

This series includes correspondence and papers related to Dr. Galfo's teaching and scholarly works throughout his career. Materials include scrapbooks, collection of publication clippings from throughout Galfo's career, correspondence relating to the publication of several of books and articles, along with research notes, materials pertaining to Dr. Galfo's employment, correspondence with college officials, participation in committees, and some materials related to his applications to teach or approve specific courses. Correspondence and Papers related to Dr. Galfo's activities in Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society and the Air Force, including materials pertaining to articles and reports Dr. Galfo wrote for or about the Air Force and/or its relationship with education. The box also includes Air Force and Kappa Delta Pi materials related to awards and ceremonies involving Dr. Galfo.

Materials, including notes, publications and correspondence relating to Dr. Galfo's international research on secondary school students' understandings of NATO and the Warsaw Pact. It includes material relating to his application for a Fulbright, his specific visits to numerous schools in the United Kingdom and Germany, and conferences which he attended and/or produced scholarship for in the course of his research. Files on Dr. Galfo's school visits are divided by school. Boxes 7 and 8 include notes, communication, and travel information from Dr. Galfo's 1980s research projects in Europe and Virginia.

This series includes Dr. Galfo's publications from throughout his career, including books and articles, arranged chronologically. Box 4 contains published editions only. Research materials and manuscripts related to the material can be found in boxes 1 and 3. Box 8 holds articles written by Dr. Galfo throughout his career.

This series contains syllabi, sample statistics, examples, notes, visual aides, exercises, tests, and other materials related to Dr. Galfo's teaching activities, particularly Statistics and Data Analysis. Files are broken down by lesson and/or chapter number.

Memoranda, minutes and other materials produced by and for the various committees on which Dr. Galfo served during his time at the College of William and Mary. Items are organized into folders by committee and academic year, and then ordered chronologically.

This series includes photos, news clippings, mementos and job-related paperwork amassed during Dr. Galfo's career, pertaining specifically to his status as a professor, and his recognition for service. Three scrapbooks are included in this series, including one amassed upon his retirement of letters sent in his honor by current and former colleagues and students. Due to its size, one of the scrapbooks is maintained separately in Box 9.

The scrapbook covers Dr. Galfo's time as a student at the University of Buffalo, his early career at William and Mary and in the Armed Services.

1-two sided silk map. Sheet E of the map shows Germany, a protectorate, Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary. Sheet C of the map shows Holland, Belgium, France, and Germany. The map belonged to Dr. Armand J. Galfo who served in the Army Air Force during World War II and was also an Assistant Dean at the School of Education. The map measures approximately 29.5in. (length) x 34in. (width). and is in good condition. There are hand-drawn symbols for bombs in locations that were targeted by Galfo's unit. ,The edges of the map have some fraying and there is a blue ink spot and a black spot on the right side of Sheet C. 1-Silver Dollar coin that features a depiction of Liberty walking toward a mountain range and a sunrise. "LIBERTY" is inscribed in raised letters in an arch above the depiction. "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed in raised letters to the right of Liberty's leg and "2000" is inscribed in raised numbers at the bottom of the coin. The back of the coin features a depiction of the Eagle from the Great Seal of the United States. Above the eagle's head there are thirteen stars composed in a triangular shape. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed in raised letters in an arch above the eagle. "1 OZ. FINE SILVER-ONE DOLLAR" is inscribed in raised letters below the eagle. This silver dollar was given to Armand Galfo (Co. USAF Res.) by Scott Hankinson (husband of Marie Galfo Hankinson) on June 30, 2000 after Armand administered the oath of office to Scot making Scott an Ensign USN. Marie is the daughter of Noel Galfo, Armand's cousin who served on three fronts in Europe, Africa, and Italy in WWII. The coin measures approximately 1.5in. in diameter and is in excellent condition. 1-piece of paper that has "I, STATE YOUR FULL NAME, HAVING BEEN APPOINTED A ___ IN THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE, DO SOLEMNLY SWEAR THAT I WILL SUPPORT AND DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES AGAINST ALL ENEMIES, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC; THAT I WILL BEAR TRUE FAITH AND ALLEGIANCE TO THE SAME; THAT I WILL TAKE THIS OBLIGATION FREELY, WITHOUT MENTAL RESERVATION OR PURPOSE OF EVASION; AND THAT I WILL WELL AND FAITHFULLY DISCHARGE THE DUTIES OF THE OFFICE UPON WHICH I AM ABOUT TO ENTER, SO HELP ME GOD" typed in black Times New Roman font. "STATE YOUR FULL NAME" is crossed out with a pen and "Scott Thomas Hankinson," is written in cursive with a black pen. In the blank "An Ensign " is written in cursive in black pen innk. "AIR FORCE," is also crossed out with pen and "Navy" is written above it in cursive with black ink. There is a comma added in black pen ink after "FAITHFULLY" and a semicolon after "OFFICE." "Over" is written within parentheses in cursive black pen ink. The paper is taped to a recipe card on which is written in cursive "This silver dollar was given to Armand (Col. 1-copper fifty cent piece the front of which features Liberty's head in the center. "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed in raised letters above Liberty's head 1908" is inscribed in raised numbers below her head. There are six stars on the left side of the front of the coin and seven on the right side of the front, making a total of thirteen. On the back of the coin the eagle of the Great Seal of the United States is depicted. There are thirteen stars above his head. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed in an arch at the top of the back of the coin. "HALF DOLLAR" is inscribed on the bottom of the back of the coin. The coin was given to Armand Galfo for a speech at the PTA at the dedication of new jr.-sr. High School at Woodlawn Beach, 4th grade 1935. The coin measures approximately 1.125in. and is in fair condition. many of the the letters, numbers and images are worn smooth and there is discoloration all around the coin. 1-pocket knife that has a plastic yellow cover fastened to the body of the knife on both the front and the back. The front yellow plastic cover has "MANHO(?)AN FLOUR FEED CO./ of Buffalo, Inc./CL 7350-901 William St." printed in black. There are two knifes that fold in and out of the body of the pocket knife. The first knife is sharp and angled and has "COLONIAL" engraved on the base. The second knife is smaller, straight and blunt and has "MADE IN THE U.S.A". The pocket knife belonged to Armand J.Galfo, U.S. Air Force Reserves officer and Assistant Dean of the School of Education at the College of William and Mary between 1965 and 1966. It measures approximately 3in. (body), 2.5in. (first knife), and 1.75in. (second knife) and is in poor condition. Some of the text on the yellow plastic front cover has been rubbed off. The knives and the place where they fold into the body of the pocket knife are severely tarnished. The knives have rust colored stains at their base. There is a rust colored stain at the tip of the back of the second knife and the edge of the first knife has been chipped. Located in University Artifact Collection, UA Metals. UA 2007.063.05

1-circular blue patch that features a depiction of a silver falcon with a golden head and talons holding on to a silver bolt of lightning in the center. At the top of the patch "AIR FORCE" is embroidered in gold in an arch. At the bottom of the patch "ACADEMY" is embroidered in gold in an arch. There are two golden stars embroidered on the left and right side of the patch separating "AIR FORCE" and "ACADEMY." The outside of the patch as a silver embroidered circle. The Patch is a vintage souvenir from the Air Force Academy Gift Shop and belonged to Armand J. Galfo, U.S. Air Force Reserves officer and Assistant Dean of the School of Education at the College of William and Mary between 1965 and 1966. The patch measures approximately 3in. in diameter and is in excellent condition. Located in University Archives Artifact Collection, UA Textiles. UA 2007.063.06

1-pair of Air Force Epaulets for the rank of colonel. The epaulets are dark blue and have the eagle from the Great Seal of the United States embroidered in silver. There is a thin silver line embroidered at the bottom of the epaulets signifying that the wearer is a male colonel. The epaulets belonged to Armand J. Galfo, U.S. Air Force Reserves officer and Assistant Dean of the School of Education at the College of William and Mary between 1965 and 1966. They measure approximately 4.125in. (length) x 2in. (width) and are in good conditon. Located in University Archives Artifact Collection, UA Textiles. UA 2007.063.07a-b

1-blue circular patch with an open figure "8" in gold. There are golden wings on either side of the "8." Inside the bottom part of the "8"; is a white star that has a red center. This patch was a shoulder insignia used by the United States Army Air Corps and belonged to Armand J. Galfo, U.S. Air Force Reserves officer and Assistant Dean of the School of Education at the College of William and Mary between 1965 and 1966. The patch measures approximately 2.75in. and is in fair condition. The patch has two approximately 0.25in. loose threads at the top center and top right side. The white star inside the bottom part of the "8" has suffered some discoloration and fading, also there is a loose red thread in the middle of the star. The back of the patch has white residue, possibly from a plastic coating. Located in University Archives Artifact Collection (UA 13), UA Textiles. UA 2007.063.08

1-inverted triangular patch with that has a gold communication tower embroidered in the center with four gold lightening rays coming out from the top of the communication tower. The background of the patch is supposed to be dark blue but may have been stained with a yellow substance and is now teal green. The patch was an insignia of the Army Air Forces Technical Specialists. It belonged to Armand J. Galfo, U.S. Air Force Reserves officer and Assistant Dean of the School of Education at the College of William and Mary between 1965 and 1966. The patch measures approximately 2in. (length) x 1.5in. (width) and is in fair condition. There are loose blue and black threads on the two bottom corners of the patch. The patch has suffered discoloration and is now teal green instead of blue. 1- rectangular name badge that features a blue background with a white outline. "GALFO" is engraved in white on the blue background. The back of the name badge has two clasp pins with which one can affix the name badge to a uniform. The name badge belonged to Armand J. Galfo, U.S. Air Force Reserves officer and Assistant Dean of the School of Education at the College of William and Mary between 1965 and 1966. The name badge measures approximately 3.5in. (length) x 0.625in. (width) and is in good condition. The back clasp pins are tarnished and have rust colored stains at the top. The white outline has some brown stains along the top. 1-sheild shaped pin that has a yellow stripe in the middle with black lines outlining the yellow stripe. The rest of the shield is silver with a black outline. There is a white "s" in the middle of a black triangle, which is outlined by a white triangle, on the top left side of the yellow stripe. The back of the pin has a claps and stick pin by which the pin can be affixed to a uniform or shirt. The back of the pin also has a small square that has "© IMPRINTED PRODUCTS/ SANDIEGO (619-541-1100/CHINA" engraved inside it. The pin is an insignia for those who belonged to the 401st Bombardment Group during World War II and belonged to Armand J. Galfo, U.S. Air Force Reserves officer and Assistant Dean of the School of Education at the College of William and Mary between 1965 and 1966. The pin measures approximately 1.125in (length) x 0.875in. (width) and is in good condition. There is some white residue on the silver part on the front of the shield. 1-lapel pin made of gilt brass that features the depiction of an eagle with its wings spread out in the middle of a circle. The bottom of the circle has five stripes. The lapel pin was awarded by the Department of Defense to those U.S. Military Servicemen who had been honorably discharged during World War II. The pin belonged to Armand J. Galfo, U.S. Air Force Reserves officer and Assistant Dean of the School of Education at the College of William and Mary between 1965 and 1966. The pin measures approximately 0.4375 in. (length) x 0.625in.(width) and is in good condition. The part of the pin that is used to affix it to the lapel of a shirt or uniform is missing. One 1 ZaÏre bank note. The front of the note features Mobutu Sese Seko, president of Zaire in 1981, to the left and a pouncing leopard to the right. the number "1" is printed in the center and "UN ZAÏRE" is printed on top of it. The back of the bank note features elephant tusks to the left and a pyramid and factory printed in the center. The number "1" is printed to the right of the pyramid and factory and "ZAÏRE" is printed over the number "1." According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury Treasury Reporting Rates as of March 31, 1981, 1 ZaÏre had the exchange rate of approximately $3.09. The bank note belonged to Armand J. Galfo U.S. Air Force Reserves officer and Assistant Dean of the School of Education at the College of William and Mary between 1965 and 1966. The bank note measures approximately 6.5in. (length) x 3in. (width) and is in good condition. There is a brown stain at the top right of the bank note on the front and the bottom left edge is bent. 2- 1000 Yugoslavian Dinars. The dinars are gray and the front features a woman with fruit and fields and farming equipment int he background. The number "1000" is also featured on the front right side of the bill. It also appears in the center on the back of the bill within a circle with people-figures holding hands. According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury Treasury Reporting Rates as of March 31, 1981, 1 Yugoslavian Dinar was equal to $20.60. The bank notes belonged to Armand J. Galfo,U.S. Air Force Reserves officer and Assistant Dean of the School of Education at the College of William and Mary between 1965 and 1966. The bank notes measures approximately 6.5in (length) x 3in. (width) and are in good condition. Both bank notes have creases in the middle where they have been folded. 1-500 Yugoslavian Dinara. The bill is green and features a statue of Nikola Tesla at Niagara Falls State Park on Goat Island, New York on the front to the left. The number "500" is also featured on the front to the right. The number "500" is also on the back of the bill in the center within a circle with people-figures holding hands. According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury Treasury Reporting Rates as of March 31, 1981, 1 Yugoslavian Dinar was equal to $20.60. The bank notes belonged to Armand J. Galfo, U.S. Air Force Reserves officer and Assistant Dean of the School of Education at the College of William and Mary between 1965 and 1966. The bank note measures approximately 6in. (length) x 2.75in. (width) and is in poor condition. There is a crease in the middle, to the left and right sides of the bill where it has been folded. The edges of the bill are torn and bent. 2-100 Yugoslavian Dinara. The bills are red and features a depiction of "Horsewoman" or the Monument of Peace that stands in front of the main building of the United Nations building in New York City. "Horsewoman" was created by Yugoslavian sculpter Antun Augustincic. The number "100" is also featured on the front of the bills to the right in red print. It is also featured on the back of the bills in the center within a circle with people-figures holding hands. According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury Treasury Reporting Rates as of March 31, 1981, 1 Yugoslavian Dinar was equal to $20.60. The bank notes belonged to Armand J. Galfo, U.S. Air Force Reserves officer and Assistant Dean of the School of Education at the College of William and Mary between 1965 and 1966. The bills are made of cotton paper and measure aproximately 5.75in. (length) x 2.75 (width). The bills are in poor condition. Both are crinkled, have dirt stains, and their edges have various rips tears and bends. There is a worn crease in the center of bill a. That bill aslo has its top left and bottom right corners bent. 5-50 Yugoslavian Dinara. The bills are blue and feature a detail from one of Ivan Meštrovic's sculptures on the front. Ivan Meštrovic was a famous Croatian sculptor. The number "50" is also printed on the front to the right. The number "50" is also featured on the back of the bills in the center within a circle with people-figures holding hands. According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury Treasury Reporting Rates as of March 31, 1981, 1 Yugoslavian Dinar was equal to $20.60. The bank notes belonged to Armand J. Galfo, U.S. Air Force Reserves officer and Assistant Dean of the School of Education at the College of William and Mary between 1965 and 1966. The bills measure approximately 5.25in. (length) x 2.5in. (width) and are in fair to poor condition. All the bills have dirt stains on them and have various tears along their edges. Bill a is in fair condition with only its top right and left corners bent and creases along the depiction of the Meštrovic relief and in the center. Bill b is in poor condition and has its top left and bottom right corners bent as well as a diagonal crease at the top left side and in the center and right side of the bill. There are also red stains on the back of bill b on the right. Bill c is in poor condition and its top and bottom left corners are completely folded. There is also an approximately 1.25in. stain in the center of the back of the bill starting at the bottom of the bill and ending at the number "50." Bill d is in poor condition and its top left corner is completely folded. There are also small red stains on the top and bottom edge of the bill on the back. Finally, bill e is in poor condition with all of its corners folded (left corners folded back and right corners folded over the front). 1-20 Yugoslavian Dinara. The bill is purple and features a depiction of ships at port dockside on the front. The number "20" is also printed on the front to the right. The number "20" is also featured on the back of the bill in the center within a circle with people-figures holding hands. The bank note measures approximately 5.25in (length) x 2.5in. (width) and is in poor condition. It is crinkled and has dirt stains all over it. The top left edge and the right bottom edge is folded over the front while the top right edge is folded back.
