Background

Scope and content:

Contains an autograph album and two publications about the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire that once belonged to Mary Murphy, a nurse in San Francisco during the earthquake. The publications include the book "Story of the Earthquake and Fire" by Wilbur Gleason Zeigler, published in 1906 by L. C. Osteyee containing photographs and first-hand stories of what happend during the fire. The other publication is titled "San Francisco Earthquake and Fire...Scenes Before, During and After," published by "Wood's" of Los Angeles, California in 1906 containing photographs of the earthquake and fire damage with captions. The autograph album is signed by friends of Mary Murphy from 1896-1904, mostly sending her best wishes and some include poems. The collection also includes a receipt for dues paid by Murphy to the San Francisco Nurses' Association and two train ticket stubs for passage from Los Angeles to San Francisco, California.
