Scope and content:

The records of the Department of Fine Arts at William & Mary includes office files, publications and photographs. Office files primarily from the years Professor Thomas Thorne was chair during the mid-20th century, a modern painting notebook, and publications including fliers, exhibit catalogs, newsletters, and other material.

This Modern Painting Notebook was prepared by College of William & Mary student Virginia Wilson for Fine Arts 222, which was taught by Prof. Leonard Haber in spring 1940. It measures 16" by 11" and contains typed notes and pictures excised from assorted publications.

These office files are mostly from Thomas Thorne's time as department chair. These include annual reports of the Department of Fine Arts, which also included the Theatre faculty (through 1962).
