A group of letters and a postcard, 1935-1961, written to W. Russell Button of Chicago, Illinois. The collection accompanied a book, Minxes Admonished or Beauty Reproved by Sir William Russell Flint, which was a gift to the Rare Book Collection.
Item 1: George Arliss, [London, England] to W. Russell Button, Chicago, Ill., December 24, 1935 Sends photograph to Button's aunt, Mrs. Briggs; is pleased she takes pleasure in his pictures; hopes they can meet the next time Button comes to England. 1 p. TLS Item 2: Sibylle [Russell Flint], London, [Eng.] to W. Russell Button, Chicago, Ill., April 12, [19]35 Thanks him for the parcel; has been hospitalized because of a fall and undergoing radio-therapy at Guy's Hospital; wonders if the treatment would help him. 2 pp. ALS. Item 3: Sibylle [Russell Flint, London Eng.], to W. Russell Button, Chicago, Ill., May 29, [19]35 Will be delighted to see him in July; Willie will be in France from 1 July 'til 18 July; has heard from the Websters about him. 1 p. ALS. Item 4: Sibylle Russell Flint, [London, England] to [W.] Russell [Button],, September 19, 1953 Inquires about his health; has been in hospital since March; will see the Gallops next week. 1 p. Item 5: Sibylle Russell Flint, London [England] to [W.] Russell [Button], n.p.,, March 8, [19]14 Hopes his arthritis is no worse and that he can "get round the gallery"; here everything is quiet and fears "artists are ahving a time [sic] [hard?] time"; Willie on the selection committe for the R.A. [Royal Academy] next month; thinks of him often. 1 p. Autographed letter signed. Item 6: Willie [William Russell Flint], Caernarvon [Wales], to R. B. [W. Russell Button],, [September] 18, [19]60 Thanks him for his letter of sympathy [on the occasion of Sibylle Russell Flint's death]; Admiral Moore and he are in Caernarvon; thanks him for the color photo. 2 pp. Autographed letter signed. Item 7: [William Russell Flint, London, England] to [W.] Russell Button, Chicago, Illinois,, [January] 18, [19]61 Expresses admiration for the photographer of the "4 gents"; wishes he [WRB] could have been included; comments on a photograph of him- "the Rowlandsonesque representation of your kind self in somewhat Pickwickian attire with wine glass in hand"; has visited Temple Cloud [?] and was shown many paintable subjects in Somerset; spent Christmas with friend Adrian Bury. 3 pp. Autographed letter signed. Item 8: Willie [William Russell Flint], Cairo, [Egypt] to W. Russell Button, Chicago, Ill., [March] 18, [19]60 Has been "gallivanting in Morocco & Libya. Now in Egypt - ! too many subjects everywhere." Postcard.
