Copper electrotype of the Great Seal of the Confederacy. The electrotype is housed under glass and set in beige felt. The original copy of the Great Seal of the Confederacy was forgotten by Confederate commanders during the evacuation of Richmond, where it was recovered by Colonel John Pickett, who subsequently made several electrotype copies of the seal in gold, silver, and bronze. He then presented the original seal to the State of South Carolina in 1888. Housed in a worn red leather box which features gold trim on the bottom and measures 5 in. x 5 in. The electrotype itself has a 4 in. diameter. Transferred from the Civil War Collection. Located in Dec Obj S2 SS2, Box 2. Mss 39.1C76.A3
