Background

Scope and content:

This addition to the Richard Doddridge Blackmore Collection consists of an undated one-page letter on mourning stationery, from Richard Doddridge Blackmoreto Mrs. Owen, which possibly refers to her husband's health, informing her that his nieces "were going over today to enquire for the admired & beloved one, but the weather seems likely to forbid them. I am deeply grieved to see in The Timesof today that he was not so well yesterday, but we all hope earnestly that with your good care & his own calm fortitude he may be a happiness to you for years to come." Blackmore also refers to the death of his aunt in her 89th year.
