[Gives him information regarding his publishing business; mentions his campaign for governor of California; prefers publishing his own books, even if it means taking a financial loss; lists books he published.]

[Discusses publication in Englandand Russiaof Harte's biography of Sinclair; recommends English publisher, T. Werner Laurie; advises him to delete passages referring to [Joseph] Stalinif he wants the book to be successful in Russia. ]

[Says that he read half the proofs of the biography and made necessary corrections, especially concerning second divorce.]

[Provides critical response to proofs of his biography; corrects many statements and makes suggestions.]

[Advises him not to indulge in the luxury of charity; urges him to save the money so he can write worthwhile books.]
