[Encloses a letter. Wishes he could intercede for Tait with editor. Asks about the pictures in the exhibition. Says he may be visiting New Yorkand asks for Tait's address there. Hopes Tait has met Gibson Peacockoutside the office. Is sorry that Tait won't be able to enjoy one of Mariquita da G. A. de la Figaniere Peacock's dinners.]

[Speaks of the scenery around "Rockingham Springs," Virginia, which Tait might find suitable for painting. Describes the "Springs" as an establishment, and his daily routine. Mentions expenses, and offers to arrange for T. and his wife ( Anna Tiernan Tait) to stay at the "Springs." Mentions Charles Day, Sidney Lanier, Jr.and Henry Wysham Lanier. ]

[Advises bringing coffee and a coffee-pot. Speaks of recent bad food, mentioning in passing the Taits' knowledge of the Tyrol. Says he will make arrangements with the proprietor, Gerard T. Hopkins. ]
