Scope and content:

This collection contains programs, posters, audiovisual material and organizational records from the Hampton Roads a capella choir, Schola Cantorum.

Biographical / historical:

Schola Cantorum is a community volunteer a capella choral ensemble which performs western vocal music ranging from middle ages to modern choral works.

Schola Cantorum means a "school for song" started its concert series in the fall of 1995 and was conducted by David Clayton. The mission to teach and to perform was refined by Dr. Lee Teply, a member of the music faculty at Old Dominion University. During the marking of the four hundredth anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, Schola Cantorum welcomed Gayle Johnson, musicologist and founding director of the Williamsburg Boys choir as director. In 2007, Schola Cantorum introduced a new artistic director, Agnes Fuller Mobley-Wynne, a voice professor at Old Dominion University.
