Scope and content:

These genealogical records of the Youel family, include papers with photos, notes, original documents on each ancestor, compiled by Naomi Nielsen. Information written in pencil is not documented, as the typed information is. There are also additional research files for some of these family members, surname complications prepared by Naomi and others, photographs of family members, card files of "living descendants" and "spouses" of Youel descendants, and the book, "The Descendants of Robert John Poague," along with an index.

Also included in this folder is an Index to the Private Genealogical Collection of Naomi Mae Youel Nielson, which includes a listing of microfilm of the collection on the main floor of Leyburn Library, CS 71 .Y75 1989.

Biographical / historical:

An eighteen page paper entitled, "The Curious Bear Cat: A Story of a Remarkable Woman," is included (box 41, f.8), on Naomi Mae Youel Nielsen, the compiler of this collection. It was written by her descendants, Marcia Ann Youel Smith, Warren William Youel, and James Albert Youel, 1989. In 1952, after her mother's death, Naomi began to committt to paper a formal genealogical study of her descendants. Naomi carried files around in the trunk of her car from 1952 until her retirement in January, 1971.
