This scrapbook includes photographs, letters, and newspaper clippings about the 1956 Mock Convention (mock Democratic national convention). Subjects include the death of Alben W. Barkley, who died while giving the event's keynote address, letters from Willis Robertson, Richard B. Russell, and Herman Talmadge and a photograph of Sharon Ritchie, Miss America 1956, who attended the convention.

Carl David Swanson graduated from Washington and Lee University with a B.S. in 1954 and a law degree in 1957. He was the chairman of the 1956 Mock Convention at the university.
