Background

Scope and content:

This collection contains a letter written by former Union soldier H. S. Day on January 20, 1897 to the "President of Washington College." The President at this time was G. W. C. Lee. In the letter, H. S. Day says he found the Washington College library book Precious Faith in camp the day after Hunter's Raid come through Lexington in June 1864. The letter accompanied the book which he returned to the university.
