Scope and content:

This collection contains two types of papers. First, theses submitted for a graduate or professional degree as described in the Biographical/Historical note. Second, cadet papers submitted to professors in various disciplines. The bulk of the collection dates from the 1890's - 1930's.

About the theses in this collection:

VMI offered a professional / graduate degrees for a brief period from the late 19th century - early 20th century.

"Graduates in the course of Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Liberal Arts are eligible, five years after date of graduation, for the degrees of Civil Engineer (C. E.), Electrical Engineer (E. E.), Master of Science (M. S.), or Master of Arts (M. A.), respectively. A candidate for one of these degrees must have pursued successfully and with distinction professional, educational, or graduate work as a continuation and extension of the special course pursed as an undergraduate. He must submit to the Academic Board a synopsis of his work since graduation and an approved thesis.
