Background

Scope and content:

This collection consists of materials from the life of Frank McCarthy, including seven notebooks that contain clippings of articles written by McCarthy during his VMI cadetship and during the two years after graduation. Also included is a script for the newsreel "West Point of the South" (1936) and items from the production of the movie "Patton" (1970), which McCarthy produced.

Biographical / historical:

Frank McCarthy was born in 1912 in Richmond, Virginia. He graduated from VMI in 1933. He was part of the War Department General Staff and Secretary to General George C. Marshall, a Brigadier General in the Army Reserve, and the producer of the movie "Patton." McCarthy died in 1986 in California.
