Scope and content:

The collection consists of the United States Army Commission document of William F. Lee. The document is dated August 1, 1856 and is signed by Secretary of War Jefferson Davis.

Biographical / historical:

William Fitzhugh Lee was born in 1832 in Richmond Virginia. He graduated from VMI in 1853. During the Civil War he served as a Lieutenant Colonel, 33rd Virginia Infantry Regiment. Lee was killed at Manassas, Virginia in July 1861.
