Background

Scope and content:

This collection consists of one notebook compiled by William A. Irvine from 1888 to 1889. The notebook contains poetry (copied and original), sketches, and programs from the Lexington Minstrel Club and the VMI Minstrel Club.

Biographical / historical:

William Alexander Irvine was born in 1866 in Rockbridge County, Virginia. He graduated from VMI 1889 and went on to become a businessman. He died in 1923 in Petersburg, Virginia.
