This collection consists of one letter (dated December 23, 1861) from VMI Board of Visitors member John Brannon to Jacob S. Shriver. The letter appoints Jacob's son Samuel to VMI.
- Biographical / historical:

Samuel Sprigg Shriver was born in 1843 in Wheeling, West Virginia. He graduated VMI in 1864 and was a New Market cadet. He was also a lawyer and farmer. Shriver died in 1881 in Suffolk, Virginia.
