This collection consists of one letter (dated April 30, 1847) from attorney Edmund Pendleton to David E. Moore of Lexington, Virginia. In the letter, Pendleton discusses the passage of the James River Bill in the Virginia Legislature.

Biographical / historical:

Edmund Pendleton was born in 1823 in Amherst County, Virginia. He graduated from VMI in 1842. During the Civil War he served as a Colonel in the Confederate States of America, 15th Louisiana Infantry. He was also a lawyer and state legislator. Pendleton was a member of the VMI Board of Visitors from 1870 to 1873. He died in 1899 in Lexington, Virginia.
