Background

Scope and content:

The Richard B. Chaffin receipts collection consists of 20 receipts for Chaffin's expenses at VMI and for various family expenses during the Civil War. These receipts date from January through December 1863.

Biographical / historical:

Richard Booker Chaffin was born in 1844 in Amelia County, Virginia. He was a non graduate, VMI Class of 1866. He served as a Lieutenant in the Confederate States of America cavalry. After the Civil War, Chaffin was a realtor. He died in 1902 in Richmond, Virginia.
