Background

Scope and content:

This collection consists of three letters (dated November 14-15, 1893) pertaining to Cadet George W. Rouss' decision to run away from VMI. Included is a letter from Rouss to his father (Milton Rouss, VMI Class of 1863) in which he explains his actions.

Biographical / historical:

George William Rouss was born in 1876 near Kabletown, West Virginia. He graduated VMI in 1897 and went on to be a farmer. He died in 1922 and is buried in Winchester, Virginia.
