The Arthur Arundel papers collection includes correspondence, proposals, status reports and other documents documenting Arthur Arundel's service on the George Mason University Advisory Board and the Board of Visitors. Documents in this collection cover a period from 1964-1996 and include information on Arundel's involvement with the university during and after his time on the board.
Arundel also served as the chairman for the dedication of the Fairfax campus in 1964 and there is some documentation on this activity.
There is also a student directory from 1964-1965 and a brochure from the early 1960s. Please note that all of the documents are photocopies of the originals held by Arthur Arundel.
Contains correspondence between Arthur Arundel and others concerning his involvement with Geroge Mason University.
Includes documents authored by Arundel pertaining to plans for the future of George Mason University. Also includes essays by Arundel as to the state of higher education in Northern Virginia, newsletters and memo's detailing recent events at the university, transcripts of board meetings and contact information for board members.
Includes a program for the dedication of the George Mason College, information brochure, student directory for 1964-1965 and two aerial photographs of the original campus buildings.

Arthur W. Arundel, born January 21, 1928, was a former United States Marine Corps combat officer, broadcast journalist, and the first Board Chairman of George Mason University. Arundel was born in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Harvard University in 1951. He served as a combat officer in the Korean War and as a paramilitary officer for the CIA in Vietnam. After his time with the Marines, Arundel pursued broadcast journalism, working for news outlets such as CBS News and United Press International. He also founded Arundel Communications and was heavily involved with WAVA radio station. During his time as the Board Chairman at Mason, Arundel was instrumental in facilitating the expansion of the college. Arundel passed way in 2011.
