Biographical / historical:

Dr. Evelyn L. Pugh was an educator, an historian, a scholar and a feminist. She was born in North Carolina in 1930 and earned history degrees from East Carolina University (1952), Duke University (1959), and American University (1966). Her field was British history; her later expertise was John Stuart Mill and women's rights. Her unfinished manuscript was to be a major book on John Stuart Mill and 19th century feminism. She was a faculty member in the Department of History at George Mason University from 1966 to 1987.
