Elected in 1994, Davis began his career as chairman of the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee's Subcommittee on the District of Columbia. In January 2003, he was elected to chair the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee and was reappointed in January 2005 because of his outstanding work. He also served as the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee from 1998 to 2002. Davis retired from Congress in 2008.
