The item in this collection, which dates to 1936, consists of a "rat day" sign that belonged to Mary Sue Simmons.
- Biographical / historical:

Mary Sue Simmons of Sebrell, Virginia was born in 1919 to William and Hylah Camp Simmons. In 1936, she enrolled as a student in State teachers College in Farmville, Virginia and earned her bachelor's degree in 1940. As a student at State Teachers College, Simmons served on the YWCA Music Committee and as Circulation Manager of The Rotunda and was a member of the A Capella Choir, Choral Club, College Choir, and the Granddaughters Club.

The item in this collection, which belonged to Mary Sue Simmons as a freshman at State Teachers College, was later acquired by Nancy Shelton during her tenure with the Longwood University Department of Alumni Relations. It is unknown when this collection was transferred to the Greenwood Library Archives.
