Scope and content:

The correspondence and associated photograph in this collection, which dates from 1985, concerns the 50th Reunion of the State Teachers College class of 1935.

Biographical / historical:

Anna Elizabeth Vassar of Keysville, Virginia was born in 1914 to Oscar Levi and Mamie Atkinson Vassar. In 1931, Vassar enrolled in the State Teachers College in Farmville, Virginia, and earned her degree in 1935. While a student at State Teachers College, she was a member of the Choral Club, Sodalitas Latina (Latin Club), and the Athletic Association. Additionally, she served on the Chapel Committee, the Student Standards Committee, was a reporter for The Rotunda, was editor-in-chief of The Virginian, and was Secretary of the YWCA as well as serving on the YWCA Service Committee and Membership Committee.

Custodial history:

The correspondence in this collection, written by Elizabeth Vassar Pickett, relates to the 50th Reunion of the class of 1935. The collection was later acquired by Nancy Shelton during her tenure with the Longwood University Department of Alumni Relations. It is unknown when this collection was transferred to the Greenwood Library Archives.
