This collection of ephemeral materials dates from 1917 to 1918 and consists of receipts for tuition and board payments at State Normal School for Women.

Biographical / historical:

Mable Claire Lewis of Pittsylvania County, Virginia was born in 1903 to William Henry and Mary Pocahuntas Lewis. In 1917, Lewis enrolled as a student at then-State Normal School for Women in Farmville, Virginia. For many years, she was a music teacher in Pittsylvania County. In 1929, Lewis married Frank Leslie Covington, an engineer from Arlington, Virginia.

Custodial history:

The materials in this collection, which relate to Mable Claire Lewis during her time as a student at State Normal School for Women, were later acquired by Nancy Shelton during her tenure with the Longwood University Department of Alumni Relations.
