- Biographical / historical:
-
The City of Fairfax Band was formed in 1968. Since its first concert in the summer of 1969, it has established itself as an important part of the cultural history of the City of Fairfax. In addition to performing regular concerts, the band has performed for a variety of special occasions in the City of Fairfax, Fairfax County, and other locales in the U.S. and abroad. Programs include classical transcriptions, wind band music, military and marches, show tunes, and more. Ensembles include two adult concert bands: the nationally renowned City of Fairfax Concert Band and the newer adult Main Street Community Band. Smaller ensembles serving the community are the internationally acclaimed German band “Alte Kameraden,” the Fairfax Swing Band, the Fairfax Saxophone Quartet, and the Main Street Brass Quintet. The band has featured a variety of guest soloists and supports music education in the schools and community.
