Patricia Patkau was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1950. Her education began at the University of Manitoba where she received her Bachelor of Interior Design in 1973. Patkau went on to get her Master of Architecture degree from Yale University in 1978.
Patkau has been affiliated with various universities such as Washington University and Harvard University. Presently she is an Associate Professor at the British Columbia School of Architecture. Since 1978 Patkau has been Principal of Patkau Architects, which she founded with her husband. The firm's work includes the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery in Waterloo, Ontario; Strawberry Vale School; Nursing and Biomedical Sciences Building, University of Texas, Houston; and the Seabird Island School.
