Background

Scope and content:

The Grove Renovation Records consists of photographs, floor plan blueprints, newspaper clippings, design descriptions, contracts, project manuals, and structural and conditions reports from 1900 to 2007. This collection also includes copies of quotes from "The Bugle's Echo" (Volumes II-VI, 1900-1934) in which The Grove was mentioned, a VHS tape of The Grove before the renovation in 2000, design renderings, and an architecural site plan.

Biographical / historical:

The Grove (formerly called the President's House) is the home for Virginia Tech's presidents and their families. Built in 1902, the President's House was renamed 'The Grove' in 1988. With the exception of President T. Marshall Hahn Jr. and President William E. Lavery from 1971 to 1987, every Virginia Tech president has lived in The Grove. The Grove has undergone various renovation projects since its construction, including the construction of a new garage as its latest addition in 2000.
